The NeuroTranslational Drug Discovery Program’s laboratory at the Johns Hopkins Brain Science Institute is fully equipped to conduct the medicinal chemistry, biochemical assays, and animal studies outlined in this proposal. The 4500 square ft laboratory is located in the new BioTechnology Science Center on the Johns Hopkins Medical campus.
The laboratory includes:
• Three 800-square foot medicinal chemistry laboratories, each with four 10-foot fume
hoods.
• 1500-square foot biochemistry lab which is licensed to perform radioactive assays,
and a 200 sq ft tissue culture facility, certified BSL2.
• Designated microscope room, darkroom with film developer, a cold room, and an
animal procedural lab, with a hood for perfusions and anesthesia.
• Fully equipped office space for faculty, staff scientists, postdoctoral associates,
and administrative staff with 18 computers (Mac, PC) with basic office, analytic, and
graphic software, all with constant access to the internet.
Animal facilities are located in Broadway Research Building on the Johns Hopkins’ campus that is located in 2 minute walking distance from the BioTechnology building and is linked by bridges. This facility is authorized by the American Association for Accreditation in Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). Veterinary care is provided by the Johns Hopkins Department of Comparative Medicine. All animal behavioral assays are conducted in this facility in designated suites for procedural, surgical, or behavioral testing.
The 18-member drug discovery team has extensive experience in medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, enzymology, drug screening, and animal pharmacology /toxicology and therefore provides an optimal working environment for the conduct of the proposed studies.
